THE 2021 CLAYTON DOWNTOWN DISTRICT REVITALIZATION GRANT

Thanks to Duke Energy's Hometown Revitalization Program, the Clayton Chamber Foundation was able to launch a $25,000 grant program in November of 2021.

The Clayton Chamber Foundation and the Clayton Chamber of Commerce created the Clayton Downtown District Revitalization Grant (CDDRG) funded by Duke Energy's Hometown Revitalization program. The CDDRG's purpose was to support small businesses (less than 50 employees) that were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to help small businesses recover or "pivot."
  • A pivot may be adding enhanced service or commerce opportunities for the business to adjust to the effects of the pandemic. This includes, but is not limited to, modifying physical space, improving an e-commerce site for online sales, expanding capacity for delivering goods and services, furniture for expanded outdoor dining, materials for construction of takeout windows, accessibility compliance for additional outdoor seating, additional fixtures required for compliance with public health issues, and building of e-commerce platforms, as well as other equipment or tools needed for creative adaptation.
  • Payroll, rent and utilities are excluded.
  • CDDRG Awards may be used to reimburse businesses for expenses already incurred.
  • Awards will range from $500 to $2,500.
  • Non-profits with a retail storefront can apply for the grant.

Businesses applying for a CDDRG Award must have met all the following criteria:
  • Must have experienced a hardship as a result of COVID-19.
  • Must have less than 50 employees.
  • Must typically be open to the public and have a physical location within the Town of Clayton city limits.
  • Must have been in business on or before the first quarter of 2019.
  • Must be a North Carolina business registered in North Carolina in some capacity (Secretary of State/Register of Deeds) and in good standing with all applicable Federal, State, and local governmental requirements.
