The mission of the Clayton Chamber of Commerce is to be the advocate for business, economic development, and education in Clayton, North Carolina and its surrounding communities.

2011 Program of Work
This Program of Work is a blueprint for action which sets the goals towards which the Chamber strives in meeting community needs and realizing community goals.
Business Development
The Business Development area of the Chamber is responsible to the Board of Directors and the Membership for activities and projects designed to improve the total economy, specifically directed towards tourism, transportation, commercial and retail development while supporting industrial development.The Chamber will establish the following goals to enhance the success of the Business Development area:
1) Explore the possibility of establishing a joint Economic Development Committee with the Town of Clayton with the goal being to develop a pro-active effort to recruit businesses to the Clayton area.
2) Celebrate Small Business Week - May 16th -20th.
3) Conduct the Clayton Expo -Set for June 18, 2011 at Clayton High School.
4) Conduct at least four Ribbon Cuttings per month.
5) Award the Business of Month.
6) Fully cooperate with the Clayton Downtown Development Association in their efforts to revitalize Downtown Clayton.
7) Establish a "Shop at Home" campaign.
8) Promote the Small Business Center at Johnston Community College by publicizing the numerous workshops/seminars designed to benefit the entire Chamber membership and their employees.
The Community Development area of Chamber is responsible to the Board of Directors and Membership for activities and projects which will lead toward improvement of the education and environmental elements of the community so that it will become a better and more attractive place in which to live, work, shop and invest.The Chamber will establish the following goals to enhance the success of the Community Development area:
1) Explore the possibility of creating a joint Appearance Commission between the Town of Clayton and the Clayton Chamber of Commerce.
2) The Education Committee will conduct or sponsor the following events/projects:
a) Fill the Bus for Cooper Elementary during NC Tax Free weekend.
b) Super Stars
c) Teacher's Appreciation Day
d) Sponsor one raffle in cooperation with Best Buy for a specific school for a specific need.
e) Secure the necessary sponsorships for the Flame for Learning program.
3) In cooperation with the Rotary Clubs of Clayton the Chamber will seek ways to celebrate National Volunteer Week which will be held on April 10th - 16th, 2011.
4) In cooperation with the Clayton Crime Stoppers the Chamber will attempt to expand the Crime Stoppers program county wide through the Johnston County Association of Chambers of Commerce.
The Membership Development area of the Chamber is responsible to the Board of Directors and Membership for activities and projects which will increase the Chamber's membership and retain its present membership.The Chamber will establish the following goals to enhance the success of the Membership Development area:
1. The President's Club will serve as the primary committee responsible for membership recruitment with a goal of increasing the membership base by 20% prior to Dec. 1, 2011. The President's Club will meet the fourth Thursday of every month at 4:00 p.m. On March 29th and 30th the Chamber will hold a membership drive in conjunction with the President's Club and the Chamber's Board of Directors.The area of Special Projects is responsible to the Board of Directors and the Membership for activities and special projects that generate non-dues income for the Chamber of Commerce. In addition these activities give Chamber members an opportunity to network with other members and make valuable new business contacts.The Chamber will conduct the following Special Projects:
1) The Chamber's Annual Meeting to be held on January 25, 2011 at Clayton Middle School
2) Squealin on the Square- a new fundraiser that will be held tentatively on June 3rd-4th, 20ll in conjunction with the season grand opening of the Clayton Farm and Community Market. This event will a combination of a pig cooking contest on Friday night with beach music and plenty of food on Saturday
3) The Administrative Professional Day luncheon to be held on April 27th, 2011.
4) The Chamber Golf Tournament to be held on April 29th, 2011 at Pine Hollow.
5) Membership Directory - to be distributed in October of 2011.
6) The Harvest Festival to be held Sept. 13th - 18th in downtown Clayton.
7) The Christmas Parade to be held on Dec. 10th, 2011 in downtown Clayton.
8) Assist with the Clayton Center's Season Kick Off event.
9) The Board of Directors will establish a Capital Campaign Committee whose purpose will be ascertain the capital needs, both short term and long term, of the Chamber. In addition the goal of this committee will be to develop a fundraising campaign that will seek these necessary funds beginning in January of 2012.
Johnston County Association of Chambers of Commerce
JCACC is an association of the six Chambers of Commerce in Johnston County. The organization meets quarterly and works together on projects that are countywide in nature. The following events and projects will continue to be supported by our Chamber of Commerce:
